Board games are great for classroom centers

Do you have some board games in your closet that no one uses? Bring them to school! Games like scrabble can help student with spelling and phonics.  Other board games help students with critical thinking skills, problem solving, and reasoning skills! You can put them in your reading/math centers.

Many of you know that I am from South Louisiana!
I love fonts and I am now making my own...
I am naming each font a "Cajun name."  Our culture is very unique and I am going to have fun naming the fonts.  The first font that I made is called:  Gumbo

A special place in my heart for Jayla!

My students always have a place in my heart but this sweetie has a really special place.  She has muscular dystrophy and is one of the hardest working students in my class but unfortunately, she is moving out of state and yesterday was her last day- I am taking it very hard:( I am a lucky teacher to have had her in my class! This is the last picture that she drew for me before she left!

E.Z.C. Readers from Really Good Stuff

I am not paid to promote Really Good Stuff products but when I love a product, I want to let other teachers know!  This is the E.Z.C. Readers from Really Good Stuff.  They are used for struggling readers and to help other readers focus on the sentence that they need to read.  I use them during my reading centers.

Classroom decoration idea

I saw this idea in one of the Really Good Stuff catalogs.  I have the Dr.Seuss theme so I just alternated the color of the bags with the tissues.  I used the hats on the bags!  You can always get your theme colored bags from a party store!

Oreo Turkeys

There are a few different ways to make Oreo turkeys.  One of my 1st grade teammates introduced me to this activity!  The students loved it!
You will need these ingredients...

You can use these wooden sticks or plastic spoons to help spread the icing on the oreo.
Each student gets 1 oreo ( I usually twist it for them b/c they break easily) They take their wooden stick and
dip it in the icing and spread it on one side of each of the oreo sides.  I help them place the side without the white icing up and press down into the white icing of the side that is down. They take 3 or 4 candy corns and place them on the oreo standing up.  They then take a whopper for the turkey's body and place it as shown below.  I cut the hot tamale in half and they place it near the whopper body and it is supposed to be the turkey neck.  After it is done, I let them eat it!  They really enjoy it.  There are a few different ways to do the Oreo turkey!
