I found an awesome deal on children's dictionaries! Very useful in the classroom!

Hey y'all!  I did a periscope today about some awesome children's dictionaries that I found on sale for $2.50 and they were regularly $23.95.  I have a label on my sight that says:  Debbie Miller.  I made a blog post summary about her book Reading with Meaning.  I talk about it in this video!  Hope this helps and comment any questions!

Awesome New Sight Word app for teachers and parents!

I want to share with you an AWESOME new app/website that is in its beta stage.  I was messaged by Melissa with Educasic on Twitter about checking out her app/site.
I absolutely loved it so I scoped about it a few times and then we did a Blab to ask her questions.
1st, you make a FREE account on www.getsights.com
On the upper right hand corner, you will see "Classroom Code"
Enter there and a pdf of instructions for your parents will produce for you!

I gave these out on the 1st day of school.  My parents immediately started using it.
The site is free for teachers and the app is free for parents until September 15 so you have to send the form out ASAP.
Once, they start using the app, you will get realtime results.

If you have any questions or suggestions, email me at:  misty.savario@gmail.com
or Melissa at:  melissa@educasic.com
You can view the recording of our Blab interview on blab.im and search: emtysmom-Sight word app on Blab broadcasts

Back to school bulletin board

I am not a big creative person, so this is what I came up with for my bulletin board.  The pictures below shows what it looked like from the beginning to now.  I glue 1 1/2 gros grain ribbon around the edges because all of old stuck on glue.  I added a blue bordette and the other border from Carson Dellosa.  I always use fadeless paper(pictured below) or wrapping paper for my bulletin board backgrounds.
I have learned a lot of tips from the awesome Melanie with Schoolgirlstyle.  I bought some Caterpillar cards from Schoolaids.  I used pocka dot plates for the caterpillar but you can use the solid color(I bought them at Party City.) I used pipe cleaners for the legs and constuction paper for the eyes.

New school year! Stay positive!!!!!

Hey y'all!  I hope that you are having fun for the next few days before school starts.  My inservices start tomorrow.  At school, we tend to look at each others class lists and say "Oh no...you have HIM?" or "Good Luck with her, she is bad."  I know we have all heard it and might be guilty of saying it.  We are human and sometimes negativity gets in our way.
I found this quote by Dr. Kevin Maxwell and it speaks volumes.  Schools are not like they used to be.  Parents don't help kids anymore because they simply don't have time or they just don't want to deal with it.  Some parents think that teaching should only be done at home.  We can't change their minds but we can change the way WE think.  Start this year with a POSITIVE outlook.  Don't "brand" those certain kids..Give them a chance to prove themselves to you so they have a "fresh start."
The most important thing that I have learned about teaching is to show them love and show them that you care.  You can be their constant in their life if they don't have one.  I hope that you have an awesome year and if you would like to share your experiences, please share in the comments.  Love y'all!!
